About the Photographer

From the time I started taking pictures as a child in the 60’s, I was fascinated by the idea that a photographer engages in a process of capturing a fleeting moment in time. The resulting photograph is a message sent to the future from the past. The photographer is not a passive collector of these moments but a unique and active participant in the communication of that message.

The physical world around us is a wondrous place. We too often rush around as we engage in our day-to-day activities only barely aware of the world that is ever unfolding around us. If we slow down, we have an opportunity to observe and fully experience the beauty and magic in the ordinary things we encounter.

I have worked in a furniture factory, fast food restaurants, and even in construction building residential foundations. I explored the life of a starving artist while piecing together various odd jobs to pay the rent and attend university. I’ve taught classes in children’s after school art and also graphic design and photography for adults. With an Arts Education degree from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, and Art and a MEd in Computer Science from Xavier University, I have been blessed to be a high school teacher, technology director, and an elementary school principal.

Through my photography, I strive to communicate the beauty of the natural world present at a moment in time. My photographs are meant as invitations to slowdown and interact with the image deeply to experience the magic in the ordinary.
